Charterhouse on Monday 7th January 2019 released an official statement alerting the public of opening nomination for 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
A lot of views came up when the issue of who is to be the Unsung artist of the year popped up. Two main contenders, Lyrical Joe (LJ) & KD Bakes after series of names like Efe Keyz, Amerado, Kofi Mole, Phrame, Chikel, Agbeshie etc all were mentioned.
The accolade which was won by Kelvynboy in 2018 needs to be in a safe hands with an artist who can work hard. Expects believe that KD Bakes have done well to be given that tag. With him going international in 2018,he has been able go get some nominations outside Ghana. KD Bakes who currently released his single titled “Run Go” beat the likes of Kuame Eugene and Kidi to claim Youth in Music of the year award at Youth Event Awards in September 2018.
He also bagged 5 nominations from the maiden edition of Ghana Music Awards -South Africa and was also featured in Pub records(Championed by Kemenya) project with six other strong artist in Jessy Gh, Fiamor, Lega, Spicer etc to released “Agbanjo”. Due to his hard works and consistency, he got signed to BKS RECORDS which is based in South Africa and released hit songs like CARRY ME AWAY, MAKE SENSE, GBAGA MI DU etc.
Lyrical Joe(LJ) known as the ‘Beast’ due to his wordplay and no ‘mercy for the mic’ is a strong contender as well. The 5th August 2 hit maker didn’t slow down in 2018 as he released his KILL(King In LimeLight) album followed by collaborations with Volta Music Awards artist of the year Agbeshie ‘Don’t go there’ (DGT).
He has been a workaholic ever since ‘Dailyplusnews’ reported that he was overlooked to perform at VGMA in 2018 while the chance was given to a South Africa based rapper Nasty C who went on to be a household name in Ghana. LJ have climbed a lot of stages in 2018 such as S-concert, Rappaholics etc and the opportunity to be featured on Sarkodie’s best project in 2018 “Biibi Ba” was a lovey and an unforgettable experience. It is believed that he deserves to be given the chance to so that he can shine.
